NpBay is an example of performance-based-learning at its’ best. The NpBay on-line auction is an annual event that now involves over 250 Computer Applications and Advanced Business Management students.  The annual NpBay auction has raised over $38,000 for local and national charities.

About

Students apply concepts they have learned by integrating Technology, Business Management, and E-commerce knowledge and skills to raise money for charity.

First, the students learn to use technology for research & writing:  Students learn how to identify reputable non-profit organizations. Then, they research various charitable organizations and create visual presentations to present their findings.   The charity that benefits from the annual NpBay Auction is chosen from the Students’ Research Presentations.  This year, the proceeds will be donated to UNICEF. Next the students work in teams to research NCAA colleges across the country to select athletic programs to send over 3000 letters to ask for t-shirts, jerseys, autographs, and other memorabilia that can be auctioned off to raise money for the chosen charity.

The students use a variety of computer applications to complete the Charity Research Project and NpBay Written Communications Project.  They use the Internet for research; iMovie, PowerPoint, Prezi, or Keynote is used for the Presentations; Word Mail Merge Manager is used to create and personalize form letters and Mailing Labels; Excel is used to track and chart participation and to prevent duplication.

Finally, the Advanced Business Management students coordinate their efforts to call and write to local businesses to gain sponsorships and gift card donations.  The Advanced Business Management students apply Technology, Marketing and E-commerce knowledge to promote, create, and manage the live auction for nine weeks.
